Practice Areas
Initial Applications
Starting a Social Security Disability claim can feel overwhelming, especially when you are already dealing with serious health conditions. Aplin Disability helps clients build their claim from the beginning by gathering the information Social Security needs, completing required forms, identifying medical providers and other important evidence, and helping explain how your conditions affect your ability to work and function day to day.
Our goal is to submit a thoughtful, well-developed claim from the start rather than simply completing an application and waiting to see what happens.
Reconsideration
If your initial Social Security Disability claim has been denied, reconsideration is the next opportunity to strengthen your case.
We review the denial, look for gaps or missing evidence, update Social Security on changes in your health, treatment, medications, providers, and daily functioning, and help develop the evidence needed to show how your conditions continue to limit your ability to sustain work.
A denial is not the end of the process. Reconsideration gives us an opportunity to take a closer look at the claim and continue building the record.
Hearings
When a Social Security Disability claim reaches the hearing level, preparation becomes especially important.
Aplin Disability helps clients prepare for their hearing by reviewing the medical and vocational evidence, identifying the strongest issues in the case, obtaining updated records and supporting documentation, and making sure the claimant understands what to expect.
We focus on helping the decision-maker see the full picture—not simply your diagnoses, but how your conditions affect your ability to function consistently and sustain full-time employment.
Appeals Council
If an Administrative Law Judge denies a Social Security Disability claim after a hearing, the case may be eligible for review by the Social Security Appeals Council.
At this stage, we review the hearing decision and case record for potential errors or issues that may support further review. This can include examining whether important evidence was overlooked, whether the decision accurately addressed the medical and vocational evidence, and whether Social Security’s rules were properly applied.
Appeals Council review is different from simply starting the claim over. It focuses on whether there is a basis for the prior decision to be reviewed.
VA Disability Benefits, Appeals & Hearings
You served our country. We're here to help you pursue the benefits you've earned.
At Aplin Disability Law, PLLC, we help veterans navigate the VA disability benefits process, from initial applications to disability rating increases, denied claims, appeals, and hearings before the Board of Veterans' Appeals.
Our services include gathering medical and military records, documenting service-connected conditions, preparing supporting evidence, and advocating for veterans throughout the appeals process, including hearings before a Veterans Law Judge.
Whether you're filing your first claim, challenging an unfavorable decision, or seeking a higher disability rating, we believe every veteran deserves personalized attention and an opportunity to have their circumstances fully considered.
Veteran-owned. People first, always.
Military Discharge Upgrades & Record Corrections
Your discharge status shouldn't prevent your story from being heard.
At Aplin Disability Law, PLLC, we help veterans pursue military discharge upgrades and service-record corrections. We understand that circumstances surrounding a discharge are not always straightforward, particularly when PTSD, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), military sexual trauma (MST), mental health conditions, or other service-related experiences may have played a role.
We help veterans understand their options, gather supporting documentation, and present their case to the appropriate military review board.
An unfavorable discharge can affect employment opportunities, education benefits, and access to certain veterans' benefits. However, an other-than-honorable discharge does not automatically disqualify someone from all VA benefits.
Your service is more than a discharge classification. You deserve to be heard.

Meet the team
Aplin Disability Law was built by a husband-and-wife team who have worked side by side in disability advocacy and client care—and who have lived the disability process themselves. He is a veteran and former firefighter who retrained in law; she stood beside him through the physical, mental, and financial realities that can upend a family’s world.
